Joyce Crouse, Executive Director
Dr. Joyce Crouse Ph.D. has over 50 years of experience in the field of child development and family life education. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Southern Illinois University in Home Economics Education with emphasis in vocational education, child development, and family life education. Additionally, she has related study in social anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a graduate of the Harvard University Management Development Program, is a Certified Business, Family, and Divorce Mediator, is a Certified Family and Consumer Scientist, and is Licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as an Adoption Specialist.
Dr. Crouse has been the Executive Director of Family Choices, NFPC since its inception in 2003. Prior to joining Family Choices, she served as the Director of Accreditation for the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has also been a business, family, and divorce mediator, an expert witness in child custody matters, and a private consultant. Prior to her work in the private sector Dr Crouse was the Assistant Dean/Chair of the School of Family and Consumer Sciences, at Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Crouse has over 45 years of teaching experience including serving as a instructor at Southern Illinois University and a professor Eastern Illinois University.
Dr. Crouse is a recognized leader in her field. She has received numerous honors and awards. They include the Letitia Walsh Award for Doctoral Studies in Home Economics, several faculty excellence awards for teaching and administration, and the American Home Economics Association’s Leader Award. She has published numerous scholarly works, developed a video series for the Illinois Department of Public Aid case workers and worked with graduate studies programs. She is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, having served as Vice President for Professional Standards, Chair of the Interim Council on Certification, and Chair of the Council on Accreditation. She is also a member of the Illinois Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, having served as a Vice President, a committee member, the Representative on Aging, and the Representative to the Commission on Child Welfare. She was a member of the Council of Administrators of Family and Consumer Sciences, the American Vocational Association, and the Illinois Vocational Association.
